February 2008 Member of the Month - Shannon Virts

David and I are pleased to announce February’s Member of the Month is Shannon Virts. Shannon has been a member of the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad (LCVRS) since January of 1997, initially joining as a Junior member. Shannon is no stranger to the volunteer system. Her mother, Patricia Russell, Captain 13 and her husband, Keith Virts, Chief 5, both volunteer in Loudoun County. Shannon has been married 5 years to Keith and has a 2 year old son, Jake. She was born and raised in Loudoun County, Virginia. Shannon has a younger sister Ashley and brother Stephen. Shannon is currently employed by Loudoun County Public Schools as a bus driver. During Shannons’ free time she can be found with friends and family.

Shannon has served the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad in a variety of positions in her 10 year tenure. She has held the position of Sergeant to Captain and all the ranks in between. Shannon has been a member of the LCVRS Auxiliary for over 5 years. She has competed as team Captain with the Auxiliary at many VAVRS annual competitions. Shannon is an attendant in charge (EMT-B), an ambulance driver and trainer. Shannon is also known as our New Member Sergeant, member of the Membership Committee, and Chairman of the Banquet Committee. Shannon spends countless hours each month under the Membership Committee ensuring that prospective members are contacted and followed through their probationary period. The few months that lead up to January are very busy for Shannon, as she spear heads the preparations for the annual Membership Banquet. Shannon orchestrated the event, contacting the vendors, coordinating with our host, and finding items for the theme. Because of the continued contributions to our Squad and for yet again, the wonderful banquet we attended, Shannon is February’s Member of the Month.
